To be honest I haven't really travelled much outside my country, but inside I have seen it all. I think my love for travel started at a young age. When I talk to my parents about where have I travelled to in New Zealand they say everywhere. Apparently when I was very young not even able to walk my parents would travel all over the place, they wanted us (my two brothers and I) to see the country before we set off to see the world.

We use to travel down to the south island quite a lot when I was a child as my grandparents and aunties and uncles live down there. I use to get so excited to go on a plane and see my grandparents, they lived on a farm so you could imagine what fun we got up to. But I really think why travel makes me happy is because when I think of travelling I think of all the enjoyable moments I had as a child travelling around New Zealand.

I was reading a blog the other day stating that multiple studies prove that (in most cases) spending money does not provide lasting happiness. Can you guess in which situation money can “buy happiness”? That is right, TRAVEL. Spending money on an EXPERIENCE instead of “things” is proven to bring the most immediate and lasting happiness.

Makes sense right? I love looking through photos and reminiscing about past adventures, but rarely (if ever) have I “fondly recalled” a pair of nice headphones I purchased, or a new electronic. Probably because things become outdated rather quickly, while experiences stay with you forever.

This is why this year I made the resolution to not only travel, but experience life and have fun, so when I look back to those memories I can say that I had an amazing year.

It is all about resolving to buy less things, do more, and focus on what matters: spending time with family and friends, travelling to new places, experiencing new cultures, etc. It isn't a command to be busier, but an opportunity to revaluate the focus of my life.
