In my 21 things I learnt in 21 years post I wrote “Adult Acne is real”. I wanted to take the time and talk about my skin, because no one wants to be in their late 20s and still have little (and sometimes big) red spots poking out all over their face. I have finally gotten to the stage where I am happy with the way my skin is looking, I still get those pesky little zits around that time of the month, but generally it’s clear.
From my teenage to young adult life I have always struggled with
acne and in some moment’s quite server cystic acne. I have been left with
pretty damaged skin with scarring and in some area's hyper-pigmentation.
Yes, I was a picker and I couldn't help myself.
Over the past 2 years I have been trying to get my skin under
control, I have always made sure to take my makeup off at night and thoroughly
wash my face morning and night, I had a good routine going but the acne never
left. I changed my eating habits, from eating fried processed foods to all naturally
grown product .I started to drink more water at least 2 litres a day. I then
tried changing my pillow slips every day. Lastly I decided to stop wearing
makeup at work just some mascara and lip-gloss. None of these remedies worked I
would still wake up with a few pimples around my checks and chin.
(I still have some acne scaring but I am hoping it will fade over time. I also don't have any before pictures as I hated getting my photo taken without makeup.)
I have tried almost every product of the
shelf, Proactive, going on the pill (I never took any other stronger drugs just
cause the side effects were so bad and I had seen some one get very depressed
on them), clerophill, Clean and Clear, Aveno, Clinique, Elizabeth Arden, Etsee
l'auder, Clarins and Trilogy. Nothing, nothing worked.
By this stage it had been a year of trying
everything, I had enough and decided to splurge and go to the dermatologist. I
wanted something that I could afford over a long period of time and smoothing I
could get all over the world since I’m planning to travel. She then introduced
me to Demalogica, my now holy grail skin care brand.
I can’t say how much these products have
changed my skin but they have.
I had incredible service from the ladies
at Dermalogica. If you suffer from acne and want a great skincare routine go to
them and try their products out don't be ashamed to ask for samples either as
they are quite pricey you do want to make sure it works with your skin.
