We are in full spring mode right now and summer is creeping up to fast. I've started to pay extra attention to my healthy eating and fitness. Thinking about all of the pool parties and day spent on the beach, we want to be feeling great in our own bodies don't we. Last month I posted about the easy healthy breakfast ideas and a couple of weeks ago I posted about quick easy healthy meals for dinner and lunch, now its time stay on track in between those meals.
Snacking through out the day is a smart way to keep that late afternoon hunger away. Not only does it stop you from getting hangry and downing a bag of chips right before dinner, the key to smarter snacking is being prepared, and having healthy eats on hand for when your cravings hit. I want to give you a few tips and some of my favourite snacking treats that keep me going through the week.
BE PREPARED
Being prepared is probably the most important thing with healthy eating, knowing what and when you going to eat throughout the day helps you stay on track. Some ideas with being prepared is taking your snack with you when going out or having easy to reach healthy snacks around you. I like to keep and small snap lock bag of almonds or trail mix in my back when I'm out and about this stops me from going and buying a quick chocolate slice from the coffee shop or grabbing a small chocolate bar on the way to the train station.
If you have desk job or spend hours in and office its hard not to fall victim to bad food, if you work in a company that serves biscuits and cakes for morning and afternoon tea this can be a hard thing to stay away from. I try to keep a bag on nuts on my desk and a bowl of fresh fruit when ever i get a bit peckish or your craving for that sweet treat a slice of an apple is only an arms length away.
FILL UP AFTER EXERCISE
We all know that having a snack before and after a workout is important, but its also important to know what you should be having before and after . Eating a wholesome snack before a workout is important as it helps to give you enough energy to power through and intense workout. Its best to have a balanced protein and carbohydrate post workout as it helps to repair the tired muscles, something like a protein shake with banana or egg on toast. Eating a good snack after working out will help push ourselves throughout the day without making us feel blah.
So now we know why we should be snacking, what are some healthy snacking ideas? Whether you have a sweet tooth or a savory one I have all of the ideas that will help you curb your snacking cravings.
