Have you ever stopped to think about how your workouts are benefiting your body? I never really cared what the workout was doing to my body I just hoped the weight would melt off my body. It wasn't until my first yoga class when the instructor was talking me through each exercise and telling me what part of my body it was working, I thought she was crazy when she was saying the prey twist was working your kidneys but guess what its true.

I wanted to make a post today about the benefits for exercise and what its doing to our bodies, I'm no personal trainer nor your local GP(doctor). I wanted to share a few things that I have learned over the past year.

I have found that the best fat burning exercises are ones where you have high-intensity burst of cardio in between sets of weight training. I find that any intense workout helps you to feel energized, alert, healthy and also helps you to make good food choices at dinner time. One thing I love about this workout is your body doesn't get used to the exercise quick enough: just when your body starts to get uses to a certain exercise, you switch to cardio and vice versa.

Some important things to remember when it comes of any exercise.
  • Weight training strengthens your bones, it helps to prevent the bone disease osteoporosis later in life. There are studies that show that lifting weights increases bone density, later in life you'll be thanking yourself for lifting those weights.
  • Weights burn fat, the more muscular you are the more calories you burn which means the easier it gets to work off those naughty treats. Yes cardio will do the same but weight training will give you the the toned sculpted body.
  • Weights wont bulk you up. Don't be afraid to lift weights, women don't have the hormone level that guys have to bulk up like bodybuilders. As long as you eat right , sweat at least five times a week and lift weights, your body will form the way you want.
  • Always stretch before and after any workout, if you are stretching before do some dynamic stretches after a five minute warm up. Stretching after a training session will help lengthen and release the tension in your muscles, this means working out again the next day will not be a strain on your body.
  • The best routine for a fat burning workout is interval training. Repeat the strength training and cardio workout three times. Make sure you are doing 5 minutes of jogging first thing, then after each sprint, and at the end again as your cool down.
  • Don't forget to eat some healthy protein right after working out to maximize your energy and to rebuild those muscles.
  • Exercise will make you clothes feel better. Since lifting weights increases you metabolism and build muscle, you will start to notice you body toning up in all the right areas; a flatter stomach, defined shoulders, a sculpted collar bone, to name a few. you will notice you clothes will just start to look even better than they ever did.
I hope this helped some of you to not be afraid to some heavy weight training or some of you that are struggling to lose weight. This is an area where sometimes people are not informed with whats best or what works and why it works with our bodies. Just a disclaimer when doing weight training always consult a professional so you know how to do the exercises properly, I am just speaking from experience and research. With a good diet and plenty of training and stretching you will be on the right path to a banging summer body.
