Hey guys,

About a month ago I went on a weeklong trip to Croatia for my birthday.

Let me just say it was amazing, just what you would picture, beautiful clear water, rugged coves, pristine beaches, medieval towns, picturesque and natural wonders, I loved the place!  I thought I would write about my favourite things to do in Croatia and the places to go see as we did a bit of island hopping.

So I guess I should start from the start right... Instead of just rambling along.

1. Island Hop.
Island hopping is one thing you shouldn't miss out on. In Croatia there are thousands of island off of the mainland. The main tourist islands that people island hop to is Brač, Hvar, Mljet and Korčula. There are so many companies that do day tours from the port area of Split, its the best ways to see the best parts of Croatia if you are only staying for a short period. Otherwise there are ferry's that leave daily to many of the different islands.

2. Climb the Spanjola Fortress in Hvar
If you do end up traveling to the island of Hvar, one thing to definitely do is the Spanjola Fortress. It’s just a short 30 minute walk uphill from the main square. The hill overlooks the town of Hvar is a magnificent viewpoint. From there, you can look down on the town itself, watch the comings and goings in the harbour, and see the Pakleni islands and the sea beyond. On a clear day (which they mostly are), you can see right over to Vis.
3. Swim underneath Krka waterfall
If you love waterfalls, Croatia is a fantastic country to visit. Thanks to a jagged coastline and mountains flush with rivers, waterfalls thrive in this beautiful nation. If you are staying in Split for a while I suggest go for a day trip to the Krka waterfalls. It's not a long drive from split and there are many busses that leave daily from the split bus station.

4. Eat at Croatia’s best restaurant
When you think of Croatia you think of ocean you think of Mediterranean food you think seafood. Don't be afraid of going to fancy restaurants in Croatia the food is so cheap and it taste amazing! Always ask the locals for recommendations as they always know where the best food is. And go crazy eat something that isn't in English off the menu that way you will be super surprised what you get.

5. Swim in the Adriatic Sea
Croatia is surrounded by water, if you don't go for a swim... what are you doing with your life. The water is crystal clear and cooling in the hot summer months. If you’re not jumping of boats then walk down to a beach and relax in the sun before going for a quick dip. The one thing I love about the Adriatic Sea is there is so much to do in the common tourist places, paragliding, paddle boarding, jet skiing, kayaking, snorkelling or even giant inflatable bouncy water adventure parks.

6. Explore Split
On my trip to Croatia I have to say out of all the places we stayed Split was by far my favourite. It’s one of those places where it just has everything. Split has an awesome urban vibe, yet it feels slow paced and relaxed. Also in the center you have your old historic sites like the roman emperor Diocletian Palace, the Bell tower and the Town gates. The old town is 1700 year old living museum where people live and breathe every day. But what is also great is that there are so many day tours leaving from split, you can easily reach the islands of Hvar, Brac, Vis, and Solta; spend a day exploring Trogir, and roman ruins of Salona; get active in Omis; or visit Krka and Plitvice National Park.

7. Go Snorkelling in Dubrovnik
One of the spur of the moment things happened when I was in Dubrovnik but it turned out to be the best thing I did, it was snorkelling in the sea. It’s not as great as the Great Barrier Reef but it was great to see all of the fish and coral in the crystal clear water. The sea bed, especially in the shallow waters, is pebble. Thus the underwater visibility is excellent. The Adriatic Sea is very safe to swim and snorkel. No sharks, whales or other dangerous species live in these waters (there are some small sharks, but not the dangerous ones). You can encounter lots of dolphins in the Adriatic. The most famous site for dolphins is on the island of Losinj. There are also lots of ship wrecks all along the coastline. It’s amazing definitely something to do!

8. Party the night away in Hvar
If you want a place to let loose Hvar is the place to do it. This thriving Island is full of clubs and bus and beaches to drink cocktails on. This is the party Island, it never sleeps. There are many bars to check out, Carpe Diem which is a cocktail bar right on the waterfront, Hula Hula emits a laid-back vibe about a 2km walk west of Hvar Town along the coast and if you can get a boat across to Carpe Diem Beach or Pink Champagne and watch the sun rise.

9. Relax in Brac, Bol
If your looking for more of a romantic getaway or a relaxing trip as a family, Bol is the place. Even though it’s very quiet compared to Hvar, there is still so much to do. Bol has one of the prettiest beaches in all of Croatia, Zlatni Rat a long golden beach covered in pebbles and the beach includes a water playground for kid and a beach bar for the adults. After spending a day at the beach how about some wine tasting at the local restaurants. There is a winery on the island that serves up some of the best local wines of Croatia and you know what goes well with wine food. I had some of the best Croatian food on Bol there are many restaurants along the promenade where you can relax and watch the sun set behind the mountains. If you really want to finish your relaxing day off, head to Thalasso Wellness & Spa centre at Bluesun Elaphusa hotel for one of the best massage of your life.

10. Go on a Kayaking tour in Dubrovnik
This was another out of the blue things I did but by far the highlight of my time spent in Croatia, do a 3 hour Kayaking tour. You might think 3 hours? Shenae you are crazy, but to be honest it wasn’t as hard as you think. There are many points on the tour you can stop to take photos and rest but the great thing is to be out on the water in a boat in the hot sun. It's great you have the freedom to just jump in to the sea to cool off whenever you want. During this tour I got to cliff jump go snorkelling and swim around some incredible sites.
